Heart Rate Racing

I got in a couple of extra hours today and it was great. Well, it was good. I put on a heart rate monitor for the first time in a while and realized I probably have not been working as hard as I thought. Good base though! I used my wife's heart rate monitor to set up a workout and it felt great. I was tough in a good way! I got off with empty legs and a new plan. The timing may have been just right for this!

I love playing with the numbers on a heart rate monitor... I think I came up with a good little workout today. I will share it at spin class next week.

Good Week

Thursday night we spun at Trailhead and it was a good group.

Today I got my 5 by skiing for 3 and riding for 2. I went to a movie between sets and it was great. I recommend seeing "Freedom Writers." Some of the teachers are stereotyped but it was still a very significant movie on many different levels.

I didn't think there would be anyone to ski with today but our community is getting big enough that there is always someone there! I am very thankful for our group and how awesome the people are!

Time Trials- Speed Work

I went skiing last night for 2 hours and it was fun. For the first time this season I did time trials through the park. I love time trialing for training because you are racing yourself. You start to notice things about your body and you really focus on technique. One of the time trials I did last night is a course that I had not timed for a couple years. I already had a long ski in my legs and I beat my old time by a minute. That feels good! I may be getting dropped by all my friends but I am getting faster and that is a rewarding feeling. It is good to race yourself... everyone should try it. I even tell my students to time themselves running around their house and then to focus on beating that time. If they really focus on it they might sleep different, eat different, and train different. It is good for everyone to set a goal and fun too!

Owen continues to help...

SNOW!

We started at Elm Creek and skied for an hour yesterday and then we went down to Carver Park for another 2.5! Snow! We were actually on an 8 K loop! It was great. I went home and rode for 1.5 to get my total of 5. (Even if Andy doesn't believe it!) I think I might have an ear infection now. To be healthy!

Sweating with Troy

Coach Troy gave us a good workout last night at the shop. Good group, 11! Then we watched a Sean Kelly documentary where he mumbles through the interviews. Who can believe he is a commentator now!? That reminds me of a joke!

Resistance Training

Great day of riding, I love my studs!! Pulled Owen around the neighborhood for 45 minutes and then went for an hour spin through town... I was locked out of my house so I went for another 15 minutes. Riding all year round! Thanks to Belinda for letting me get out on her fitness day! Notice my recycling of old tubes!

Training Sick

I have had a cold for 5 days and it makes training tough. I have been able to get on the bike but I am working that fine edge of recovery and health. I am going to ski tomorrow but I really have to listen to my body.

Weird Workout

I am a bit of a motivational speaker on the side and I gave my speech last night at a PTO meeting. I think that we actually got it on tape. If you ever want to see a crazy guy who looks like he has had a little too much caffine, just ask.

Then I got on my bike at home and did Suffer o Rama. Still love the tape. It gets a lot out of you, like sweat.

6 Hours

Six hours in my basement... WOW! Actually I felt good throughout! Hours 1-3 I watched the 2003 Tour of Flanders, very nice! Hours 3-5 2003 tour and finally talked to people on my cell phone for the last hour to keep my sanity! Feel drained but really pretty good! Great at the table too! I have lost 6 pounds in the last week!!

Tues. Thur. Sat.

Skiing and riding away! I have been watching my calories and have been watching my weight drop. That is a nice benefit to having a summer goal like this! We spun last night at the shop and did the Suffer o Rama DVD and then watched Greg Lemond win the World Championship in 1989. Good ride and good group!

I hate my poles!

Got out to ski a little today. It is not my day to exercise but my wife was good enough to let me get out for some New Year's Day fun. Skiing was great with the new snow. I don't hate my poles really but I love skiing with out them! Just gliding thorugh the woods with my friends. Very nice day!

I was good at the table too, under 3,000 cal!! Not counting the carrot sticks!
